In the Charter School, I used Edmentum to learn about Biology.  This coursework has advanced my knowledge of Biology which will be important for my career. I hope to go into the medical field either as a Nursing Assistant, Dental Assistant, or Medical Imaging Tech.

 

Project Title: Mendel's Laws of Inheritance - Genetics & Cloning

 

Problem Statement for Project:

You are studying biology and want to learn more about living things and using the scientific method. Mendel established three "laws" of inheritance: the law of dominance, the law of segregation, and the law of independent assortment. How are traits passed from one generation to another? What are the principles of genetic inheritance?  Why are scientists studying cloning?

My Project Learning Goal & Objectives:

Student will:

• Use an argument based on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning to support an explanation for how characteristic animal behaviors affect the probability of successful reproduction of animals.

• Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for how genetic factors influence the growth of organisms.

• Develop and use a model to describe why structural changes to genes (mutations) located on chromosomes may affect proteins and may result in harmful, beneficial, or neutral effects to the structure and function of the organism.

• Develop and use a model to describe why sexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information (example: identical twins) and offspring with genetic variation (what are the three types).
